Disney delivered a PR avalanche today, with so much news that we’re going to split the new information into two stories. First up, Johnny Depp, who has signed not only to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth, untitled Pirates Of The Caribbean film, but will also play The Lone Ranger and star as The Mad Hatter in Bessie mate Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland.
The announcement was made yesterday, reports Variety, with Depp taking the stage dressed as Jack but wearing the Lone Ranger’s mask.
He’ll return as Captain Sparrow for a fourth Pirates adventure, which as yet doesn’t have a title, but will likely see him venturing in search of the Fountain Of Youth, as hinted at by the finale of At World’s End. There’s also no word yet on whether Gore Verbinski will come back to direct or if any of Depp’s co-stars, including Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom will return.
Lone Rangers, Mad Hatters
And that was just the start of the news. He’s officially signed on to play The Lone Ranger, which doesn’t yet have a director, but Jerry Bruckheimer (who also announced a third National Treasure with Nicolas Cage) is producing the film. And Pirates scribes Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio have written at least one draft of the script.
Finally, there’s Tim Burton’s version of Alice In Wonderland. Aiming to open in 2010, Burton has added Depp as the Mad Hatter (confirming rumours that the friends would work together yet again) to a cast that already includes Rogue co-star Mia Wasikowska as Alice.
And in an unusual move for Burton, he’ll be using 3D and Beowulf-style performance-capture to make the film.
Three Pirate films Were Enough , But I Dont Know If I Can Sit Through Another 3 Hours of Orlando Bloom Acting Badly. I would However Sit For Three hours Watching Keira Knightly
As For The Lone Ranger & Alice In Wonderland Films , Im Sick of Burton Making Crappy Remakes and I Didnt See The Original Ranger Movie , So I Dont Really See Myself Watching This One Either.
I Do However Hope These Rumours of Depp Playing The Riddler In The Third Batman Film are Revealed As True.
