The camera cuts backstage to a well furnished room with dimmed lights where Mattitude Follower is sat on a leather sofa opposite to Takedown backstage interviewer Ella who is seating on another one. He’s wearing black boots, black baggy pants and a black mesh top. His ragged long hair has been bleached blond and the OWW Takedown Challenge Title is draped over his shoulder. Ella is wearing a skirt and suit jacket. She has some papers in her lap which she glances down before engaging conversation with Mattitude Follower.
Ella: My guest at this time, the current OWW Takedown Challenge Champion and one third of The Sickness, Mattitude Follower. Matt, I just want to ask you a few questions about Takedown which you can answer as openly as you see fit.
Mattitude Follower: Fire away Ella.
Ella: Well, what are your opinions on your loss at “Annihilation Day” to the team of STL, Prodigy and Stevo?
Mattitude Follower: I’m pissed off. I’m pissed that I’ve given up bragging rights to those three. STL’s a mark for himself, that guy’s a joke, a fat Sandman rip-off, not even a good one. Stevos’ a redneck hick. Enough said. Prodigy is talented as I’ve said before but he’s too conceited, too inconsistent and too mentally weak. He’s played a minor role for too long, it’s screwing with his mind. He’s getting angrier and angrier. He wants his chance at the big time but his win/loss record is pathetic. So yeah, I’m pissed off that I lost to these clowns. You want to know what else pisses me off? The fact that my partner Jhonny sleeperd me out. JHG didn’t do her part either. I may have taken my foot off the pedal with two promos as opposed to three but that was only because JHG had done one, Jhonny had done zero and it was obvious we had no chance of winning because of that. That ruined my winning streak, it damaged my cred and when it comes down to it, that’s all any of us have. I don’t need that kind of loss on my record.
Ella: But you weren’t actually pinned Mattitude-
Mattitude Follower: The Sickness let me down that night, it was a disappointment to me and that’s what matters Ella.
Ella: What are you saying? Is this the end of The Sickness? One of Takedown’s most talented tag teams ever over already? We’ve seen The Sickness tackle three teams at once in one of the most brutal matches in Takedown history and now-
Mattitude Follower: Yeah, yeah, whatever. Listen here, The Sickness isn’t over. There are cracks in the foundation of The Sickness but it isn’t a wreck like the Smoking Youth was. There’s still hope. There’s still morale. We’ve still got each others’ backs but a bond has been severed. Trust has been lost. Don’t be thinking this is the end of The Sickness though, we’re here to intoxicate, here to pollute and no cure has been developed just yet.
Ella: Now you've been entered into the Takedown World Title tournament, your thoughts on possibly becoming Takedown's first Grand Slam Champion?
Mattitude Follower: Now I love being Takedown Challenge Champion, don’t get me wrong Ella. This title belt means an awful lot to me but if there’s one thing I’d trade it for besides a night with Jessica Alba, sorry Belle, is the Takedown World Title. Ever since I joined Takedown, the World Title has been my ultimate goal. Ever since I entered The Asylum and begged Horsemen4life for a dark match as a skinny kid from the Indies. He turned me down; I was just a “mark” to them. But I kept coming back, kept asking, and pressurized him. Then one day, HHHforever07 couldn’t make the show for some reason and I was there waiting for a chance. Horsemen4life turned to me and he said “Son, you’re in. Tonight you’re facing BigRedCanadianMachine and he’s going over with a Chokeslam.” I was ecstatic; it was the best thing that had happened to me in years. Sure, I was a job boy to some giant moron who was going nowhere but I was a Takedown wrestler now and no one could ever take that away from me. I went out there in front of a silent crowd and I was so nervous I felt like throwing up as I climbed into the ring. BigRedCanadianMachine strode to the ring to cheers and the reality of what I was facing sunk in. I felt like Rabbit in 8 Mile at the first battle. But I wasn’t going to punk out and ruin my only shot. This was my chance to make it. I had to give the performance of my life. I had one shot, one opportunity. This was everything I’d ever wanted. My theme music that night? Lose Yourself by Eminem. Pretty fitting huh?
Ella nods and leans in as Mattitude Follower begins talking again, slightly quieter than before.
Mattitude Follower: I shone that night. I got squashed by that fat loser but I got the crowd behind me and had the match of the night. I stole the show in my debut and when I got backstage, Horsemen4life told me that he was offering me a long term contract. Of course I signed on the spot, met Jose, formed Smoking Youth, won the Takedown Tag Team Titles, betrayed Jose, won the Challenge Title, formed The Sickness and here I am now. A mid card champion on the verge of becoming a superstar. Respected and feared in Takedown but not quite the main event player he wanted to be. Wish that fat idiot could see me now haha. BigRedCanadianMachine tried to dominate our match, he tried to rough me around a bit but I showed him. I fought back, even when I got knocked down; I just got back up and continued fighting. That drive has got me this title belt. What has BigRedCanadianMachine got? Nothing. He was released ages ago and no one remembers that slob. My ascension this far has happened pretty quickly but it was a hell of a ride, very hard work. And that whole time, I’ve always had my eye on the World Title. Even while Stevo, Rated R and myself where eclipsing the World Title wrestlers with red hot five star classics and compelling storylines I was noting the wrestlers in the division, planning my way to the pinnacle of Takedown. Many see the Challenge Title as the hardest belt to win and I don’t blame them but the World Title is the big one. The belt that gains you instant respect for life and makes you an instant contender for any title you desire. I followed the World Title scene closely, from the old days of Qurck and Horsemen himself to modern contenders such as WWEfan, The Legend Killer and Macho Man. I thought to myself, could I beat these guys? I studied tapes, tracked down win/loss records and tried to work out whether I had the quality to make the jump to the World Title division.
Ella: Your conclusion?
Mattitude Follower: I wasn’t. WWEfan is a smart man, he has his lackeys do his dirty work and facing him could go either way. The Legend Killer’s determination is second to none; he could match me all the way. Macho Man is a good wrestler, straight up brawler and he could take me to hell and back. They are solid fighters and I wasn’t sure if I was ready for that. I’m still not sure. I’m still a kid. Twenty one years old. But I don’t have time to think it over or plan my debut into the World Title scene. The strap has been vacated and cjkerry has named me as one of the challengers. I’m thrust into a tournament containing Takedown’s finest including Creed, Prodigy, Bolton, Stevo, WWEfan, Macho Man, King of Kings, Jose, bangsurluna and several others. I’m in the tournament, this is it. It feels like I’m back at square one again, facing that pig in my debut. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. I have one shot, one opportunity. This is everything I’ve wanted. Déjà vu much? This is it Ella. Can I break the glass ceiling? Your d**n right I can but when? I’m not sure. As I said, this tournament is comprised of the cream of the crop.
Ella: What are your opinions on Rated PG, your first round opponent?
Mattitude Follower: He’s a good kid. He’s not like these other Takedown clowns who talk themselves up and can’t back it up. Take Prodigy for example, he’s running his mouth, cracking jokes, acting like a grade A jackass and look where it’s got him? Nowhere. In fact, he’s gone down since his days with Bolton and We Are Doomed. He should have stuck around with them. The Entourage were a solid team; they had potential to be great. But Prodigy went off to play WWEfan’s lackey and his career’s never recovered. People don’t take his boastful comment seriously anymore because he’s ever licking Fan’s boots or losing to Jhonny Hardcore. Meanwhile here’s Rated PG, a respectful guy with talent and humility. I see a lot of myself in Rated PG. I’m no vet, far from it but Rated PG is the kind of person I’d like to take to the top. I want to help him reach the peak. But not before I do it. I want to be World Champion but once I’m there, I’ll have no problem with giving him a helping hand. Actually, I want to give him a helping hand.
Ella: So you’d like to link up with Rated PG in some sort of team at some point?
Mattitude Follower: Yeah, you could say that. I think he’s a cool person but that doesn’t mean I won’t kick his ass at “Clash for the Crown”. I want to be World Champion; I want to be the top guy. The man who leads the company, the figurehead of not only this show but this business. This Stevo deal has got me down recently, I lost my motivation with all these personal problems but I’ve got my head together and set my sights on being the face of Takedown. That is what I want more than anything right now.
Ella: Speaking of Stevo, your feud is not over, is it? You still want another fight?
Mattitude Follower: I don’t want another fight. Every time I beat Stevo down, I got Belle having a go at me. We’re cool and all but it’s tough to make your girlfriends dad bleed and not have her get mad about it you know? I’ve beaten Stevo twice now. Once for the belt and then again to retain it. Okay the first result was cheap but I was desperate to make a name for myself. The second win was clean, it was fair, and I beat him in the middle of the ring 123. That should be it, feud over but no. Stevo’s whining to cjkerry about how he deserves one last chance. Screw that. I’m not scared, I just don’t want to create more tension between me and Belle. Plus Stevo’s bene given enough shots, this whole time, I’ve got a massive target on my back. People like Creed and Prodigy are firing off on me, I’ve got a score to settle with Jose and then STL’s whinging like a pregnant dog too. Hell I’ve got half of Takedown gunning for me and Stevo’s been taken down already. I’ve shot him out the sky, he’s dying but he’s just not going to call it a day. He’s still clinging on to existence and it’s sad to see a veteran like him who can’t realise it’s time for him to give it up. He’s all talk and I’m tired of hearing it. When do the lies end? When does the truth begin? When does reality set in? Or does it not matter? I’ve just had enough. That’s all I have to say on the subject of Stevo. I’ve wasted enough time on that inbred for one day.
Ella: What about Mario Radachev and the Romanian Pro Wrestling World Title?
Mattitude Follower: That was just a bit of fun. Add some comedy element to my character. A lot of the stuff I’ve done recently has been for laughs; I’ve been messing round, cracking jokes and playing pranks but that stops now. I can’t screw around anymore, at least not for a while. I have to focus because this opportunity is life changing. It’s a childhood dream only a few matches away for me so I can’t afford to let it pass me by. So you’re going to see a new Mattitude, a more determined, focussed, aggressive Mattitude.
Ella: Recently you and your former partner Jose Ricardo, previously known as RKO93, shook hands and buried the hachet. Your thoughts?
Mattitude Follower: Well after what I did to him, I never expected us to make up so soon. I left him alone against one of the best tag teams this business has ever seen. He lost his belt because of me. I didn’t feel bad about it then and I don’t now. I reckon he’s got some sort of ulterior motive, he’ll be demanding a title shot within long or something like that but that’s okay. There’s barely anyone I can fully trust anymore. Everyone wants a shot at this. Anyone could take me out; anyone could betray me at anytime. That’s when the paranoia sinks in. You’ve got to think whether people are being nice to you for you or to get closer to the strap. Titles can make people to crazy things, I should know. For now, me and Jose are cool, we’ve obviously still got heat and when we face off, sparks will fly because we are both competitors and we still want to kick each others ass no matter how many times he denies it.
Ella: What is your opinion on The Dunegon?
Mattitude Follower: I think it’s great. I’d have really benefitted from The Dungeon back when I debuted. I was young and green, my skill was poor and I had to learn the hard way. I was thrown in at the deep end with no one but the Smoking Youth for help. The vets didn’t help us, hell they victimized us! The EWC beat us down nightly. It was a steep learning curve and The Dungeon wrestlers should be grateful that they have trainers to help them improve their ability. It’s nice to see young guys come through and make a name for themselves and I reckon The Dungeon will be a success, I see potential in many of the current wrestlers.
Ella: Any particular?
Mattitude Follower: CT Baker stands out. He’s clever, skilled on the mic and solid in between the ropes. I think he will be a big star in Takedown one day, watch out for him. Zach too, he’s been making strides recently and a promotion for both of them doesn’t seem far off. Sevendust is another one. And Cougar Claire. They are all impressing me.
Ella: Now from this interview I sense you’ve changed since your days after the Smoking Youth split, can you expand from this transformation?
Mattitude Follower: If I’m honest with you, it wasn’t my idea to do this gimmick; I don’t want to stray too far from kayfabe in an official Takedown interview, don’t want to lose this belt too soon but I was presented with the idea and parts of it appealed to me and others didn’t. But it what was I had to portray to get where I am so I did it and got it over. I mean, obviously I can’t go into the details here but the net fans will understand where I’m coming from here. Now I’m champ, I’ve been given a little more control and I’ve moved away from the emo side of things for a more badass Mattitude. Still edgy, still dark but less of a girl thingy you know? Less whinging and more ass kicking. I’ve still got a lot of pent up anger, a lot of people I can’t stand, a lot of people who can’t stand me and I’m still that same vicious son of a pregnant dog. I’m still spitting venom and suckers are still soaking it up.
Ella: Okay Matt, there’s one last thing I wanted to ask you before I end this interview and that is what your feelings on Rated R’s return to Takedown are? There have been reports that you are good friends with him as well as StuffOfLegends. Please expand on that.
Mattitude Follower: Rated R is a former Challenge Champion, he’s a great wrestler and I really hope I get to wrestle him at some point because I reckon we could have some amazing matches. Plus I could learn a lot from him too. And yes, I am close friends with Rated R and StuffOfLegends. SOL has a lot of promise but needs to knuckle down, quit messing around and get focussed. He could be a major player in Takedown but he’s wasting his time at the moment when he should be ascending to the top.
Ella: So Matt, with your friendship to StuffOfLegends and Rated R, could we see them added to The Sickness stable? And what about SOL’s partner Mike?
Mattitude Follower: Ella, I’m not going to say that’s out of the question but for now, The Sickness is staying how it is. We make a great team and we’ve all got each other’s backs, it works perfectly. Just because I’m friends with active wrestlers doesn’t mean they’ll be joining The Sickness or anything like that though one day, that could be a reality because I never say never. If you told me back at “Let the Games Begin” that I’d be rocking a gothic gimmick in a team with Jhonny Hardcore I’d never believe you.
Ella: Anything else you have to say?
Mattitude Follower: Sooner or later, you will see Mattitude Follower atop this company, one day I will be World Champion whether you people like it or not. I have the combination of drive, charisma and in-ring ability of which main event calibre wrestlers are made of. It’s only a matter of time before I wear two titles at once and become Takedown’s first Grand Slam Champion, time and a couple of other wrestlers. But nothing I can’t handle. Rated PG, bring your A game kido because you can bet your ass that I will. Oh and Led Zeppelin are really, really overrated.
Ella: Thanks for your time Matt.
Mattitude Follower nods and gets up to his feet as the screen fades to black.
